Hon. Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Gerd Buziek

Hon. Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Gerd Buziek serves as Business Relations Executive and Company Spokesman at Esri Deutschland/Schweiz. He is with Esri Deutschland, Kranzberg, since 2004 and has been working in different management positions. He started his career in the private sector in 2000 at SICAD Geomatics, a SIEMENS company, Munich. From 2002 to 2004 he served as managing director at the startup company CeGI, Center for Geoinformation GmbH, Dortmund, to develop the Spatial Data Initiative in Northrhine-Westfalia. Gerd’s academic background is in surveying, mapping, visualization, and communication. He studied at the Universities of Braunschweig and Hannover from 1981 to 1987, and he had study visits at ETH Zürich, Switzerland, and Pennsylvania State University, USA. In 1993 he finished his doctorate with summa cum laude. Additionally, he helds a state doctorate with venia legendi for Cartography and Geomatics since 2001. Recently, he is appointed as private lecturer (Privatdozent) at Technical University of Munich/School of Engineering and Design. On volunteer basis Buziek is engaged various digital transformation activities and associations to empower organizations by GIS and location intelligence. Currently, he is chairman of bitkom’s working group “Geoinformation”, of Gaia-X domain “Geoinformation”, and of the Economic Affairs Council of the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Germany.
